The Mega Taxi company are no alternative to Winstar taxis in Subic Bay.
Last weekend I arrived in Subic Bay as a guest on a friends yacht and asked for a taxi pick up from the yacht club. The driver wanted Php150 to take me from the yacht club to Royal supermarket (a Php40 ride in Metro Manila) and a full Php200 surcharge to exit the main gate. But of course, just like the erstwhile monopoly held by Disk Turpinesque Winstar, he forgot to tell me about the surcharges until the time came to pay.
But the taxi driver was all too happy to tell me that he used to work for Winstar but now makes more money with Mega Taxi because the franchise takes less of his fare income. What he omitted to tell me was that he was simply charging the pre-existing Winstar taxi rates and pocketing the difference.
Outrageous is what I call it. Yet again Subic Bay is unfriendly to people without their own transport.
When will we Filipinos learn that there is more money to be made by providing the right service at a fair price instead of stealing from the few luckless new arrivals.
Shame on you Mega Taxi, you are no better than the evil Winstar in Subic Bay.
Best advice: when in Subic Bay, walk - because the ATMs are usually Mega empty.
